Birthday difference calculator — why total days is a useful cross-check
Dividing the total days by 365.25 (accounting for leap years) gives you the age gap as a decimal. 2,664 ÷ 365.25 ≈ 7.29 years. That aligns with 7 years and 3.5 months — consistent with the precise calculation. If your decimal result and your year-month-day result diverge by more than a few weeks, something has gone wrong in the calculation.
Leap year edge cases — when February 29 is involved
If one or both people were born on 29 February, the age difference calculation requires care. In years where the other person’s birthday month crosses February, the day-borrowing step needs to use the actual days in February for that specific year (28 in most years, 29 in leap years).
